Real Madrid and Barcelona have had some of the best midfielders the world has ever seen throughout their history. But recently, Los Blancos seem to have been left behind in terms of dominance in the middle of the park following the departure of iconic figures like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric from the club.
While the Catalans have managed to assemble a solid midfield full of youngsters, the Merengues have failed in their attempts to achieve a similar outcome. Infact, Pedri is considered one of the best in his position currently, and few would argue against it after his club’s back-to-back La Liga titles.
That said, fortunately for Real Madrid, it looks like they might have found their own Pedri, judging by the rise of their academy product, Thiago Pitarch, this season despite the team going trophyless.
The Spanish youngster started for Los Blancos in their last matchup of the campaign against Athletic Club. He was impressive overall, controlled the tempo, helped defensively, and acted as a pivotal link. As if these weren’t enough, the youngster provided two assists as well, putting the cherry on top. So, there’s plenty of reason to believe that Pitarch might be the next big thing in Real’s midfield.
Thiago Pitarch is the closest player to Pedri that Real Madrid have got
Pitarch has caught many eyes with his displays throughout the season. The appointment of Alvaro Arbeloa really kicked things off for the midfielder. He has appeared in 36 matches overall, scoring twice and providing five assists. Notably, the youngster has a very high passing success rate of 90.2%, along with 63.2% accurate long balls (via FOTMOB).
At just 18 years old, he still has a lot to learn and several areas to improve. But by the looks of it, Pitarch is headed in the right direction. He has all the abilities needed to become one of the best midfielders in the near future.
Pitarch’s current contract with Real is set to expire in 2027. The board should go ahead and arrange an extension judging by the promise the Spaniard has shown in recent months.
Meanwhile, Real are expected to bring in some new faces to address their issues in the middle of the park during the upcoming summer transfer window. However, they will have to be careful to give Pitarch enough minutes on the pitch for him to continue developing. After all, fans would love to see a homegrown talent rise through the ranks at the Bernabeu in the famous Royal White jersey.
