Despite the unfortunate Eder Militao injury, Real Madrid have ruled out a Sergio Ramos transfer return. The unthinkable will not occur.

Real Madrid were struck over the weekend with some very unfortunate news. Eder Militao is due to miss the remainder of the season through injury.

This means that Antonio Rudiger is the only recognised and experienced centre back available to Real Madrid right now. Furthermore, Real Madrid are without a right-back other than Lucas Vazquez. The situation is dire at the Bernabeu, to say the least.

However, even despite the Sergio Ramos return claims, Real Madrid fans might need to start considering other options instead.

According to a report from Spanish outlet AS, Real Madrid have decided that a centre back will join Real Madrid in January. However, the decision has been made, ignoring Sergio Ramos. He will definitely not re-join Real Madrid.

This is a decision from Real Madrid, who wish to sign a young and upcoming centre back, rather than living in the past. It is also believed that the manner in which Ramos left left a bitter taste in the mouths of the Real Madrid hierarchy. Therefore, they do not consider Ramos as an option.

It is easy to understand why the Sergio Ramos talk begun. He is currently without a club, after playing at Sevilla. Therefore, he is still at the standard required to play in La Liga.

Given Real Madrid's immediate need to bring in a centre back and their nature to be cost-cutting, it is a move which would make sense. After all, the club is not opposed to bringing back former players when the time is right.

However, the Sergio Ramos situation is more complicated than those in the past. As eluded to, Real Madrid would need to address the awkward manner in which he originally left the club. Furthermore, they would have to go against their values in recent years, of only signing young players.

Perhaps in another universe Sergio Ramos would have his deserved homecoming.
