Real Madrid's reported interest in Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has gained weight in recent weeks. The La Liga giants are setting their sights on a new midfielder this summer and the Hungarian is one of the best in the world at the moment.
Szoboszlai has been incredible at Anfield this season, posting 10 goals and seven assists in 35 games across competitions. His teammate Mohamed Salah reckons he's among the best players on the planet.
The talk over Madrid swooping for Szoboszlai grew when his Hungary manager revealed Los Blancos are his "dream club." The possibility of him heading to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer has now been given an update.
Szoboszlai to Madrid?
Michael Plant of liverpool.com has insisted there are no credible reports about Madrid making a move for Szoboszlai. He claims that even if the La Liga club do make contact with Liverpool "those conversations would not last long."
The Reds are thought to have "no intention" of selling their most in-form superstar despite his contract situation. He will have two years left on his current deal this summer and reportedly wants a pay rise that reflects his status in Arne Slot's team.
Szoboszlai, dubbed "world-class" by Shay Given, has been at Anfield since the summer of 2023 when he arrived from RB Leipzig for €50m. He won the Premier League title with the Merseyside giants last season and is now arguably their most important player.
Szoboszlai's agent on Madrid links
Madrid might need to look elsewhere in the summer, judging by comments made by Szoboszlai's agent, Matyas Esterhazy. He told Hungarian outlet NB1 (via the source above) that speculation linking his client with Madrid was "not a topic" and to talk about what could happen at the end of the season is "not correct."
Esterhazy added: “Not to mention, Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world and Dominik is in a position within the team that has a lot of reserve, so we are not looking outside or elsewhere.”
That should end the talk regarding the Hungarian potentially being lined up by Los Blancos. It would be a different scenario if he were to have one year left on his contract but his current club are in a solid position regarding his future.
Madrid won't fret given the long list of potential midfield acquistions the club have in mind. One of those is PSG's Vitinha and an improvement in relations between Florentino Perez and Nasser Al-Khelaifi could help aid a deal for the Portuguese although it will come at a huge price.
