In about a month's time, Xabi Alonso will replace Carlo Ancelotti to be the next Real Madrid manager and is going to take the team to the Club World Cup.
Several players have already been signed under the new manager. Trent Alexander Arnold is just a few days away, Dean Huijsen has already been announced, and Alvaro Carreras is a strong contender for the next left-back spot. More signings are bound to happen in the coming months.
But as per a report from Diario AS, there are 5 Real Madrid players who might not make it under Xabi. These names are not unexpected owing to their recent form bar one surprising addition.
Per the article, Rodrygo, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos and Eduardo Camavinga do not have their future secured under Xabi's plans.
Xabi's axe will stir some serious conversations within Real Madrid
We know that Rodrygo is one foot out of Real Madrid. He's had an awful season and has lost the trust of the management.
With Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe emerging as the best suitors for Xabi's renowned 4-4-2 style, Rodrygo is clearly on the back foot and may not even receive as many minutes next season as he did this season.
In the case of Alaba, the largest source of contention is his exorbitant wage, which is the third highest in the club and that he has plainly failed to justify thus far. He does not compensate for what Madrid invests in.
And now that Huijsen has arrived, Antonio Rudiger, Raul Asencio, and Huijsen will undoubtedly be Xabi's preferred center backs.
Ferland Mendy, once again, is in deep water. He is not as dependable as Madrid would like him to be, and his job may be ineffective under Xabi's system. The manager prefers full-backs who are more involved in the offensive, which is one of Mendy's major shortcomings. Carreras, on the other hand, is already a popular choice.
Dani Ceballos has lost his way in the midfield and is reverting to his previous form. He was a hero midway through the season, but his form has slipped after returning from injury.
Eduardo Camavinga is not a name I expected to see on this list. Yes, the youngster did not have a good season, but being added to the list of those who are unsafe is a bit much for me at this point. This supposition, though, may become a reality if Madrid end up signing Xabi's chosen midfielders.
