Real Madrid are selling some of their players right now. They’ve already sold Victor Chust and Mario Gila. Luka Jovic and Sergio Santos will leave the club very soon as well, and they would then focus on some more sales before they’re able to look at potential signings for the season.

Jovic to Fiorentina would be a free transfer, but the club would retain a 50% sell-on clause which will get them a considerable amount of money if the player performs well and is further sold by Fiorentina.

But, Jovic’s father, for reasons unknown, took shots at Real Madrid. Via MadridZone, the man said this to MARCA:

Well, that was unnecessary.

It’s not Real Madrid’s fault that Luka Jovic wasn’t successful at the club

It’s not really anything about right or wrong here, in my opinion.

Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid in 2019, and since then, he has made 51 appearances and scored only three goals for the club. Jovic didn’t really get a lot of playing time at Real Madrid, but it’s not really because Real Madrid had something against the guy. It was solely because the player that he was competing with for the starting spot was Karim Benzema!

Benzema was the world’s best striker last season. Actually, not just a striker, he was the world’s best player last season, and even in the two seasons before that, Benzema had great campaigns, scoring so many goals and assisting some as well.

Jovic wasn’t able to capitalise on the few chances he received from the coach, whenever Benzema got injured or was rested.

Say what you want about Mariano, the guy at least made his presence known for the club.  So many times when Jovic was playing, he didn’t really make an effort to show everyone that he is 100% into it. That he wants to succeed at the club, that he wants to play more. We didn’t see that spark, and that’s why the Serbian didn’t have a huge role.

Jovic didn’t do much off the bench like Rodrygo, he didn’t do much when he got his opportunity to start like Fede Valverde last season. You can’t blame the club for all that. Part of the blame goes to Jovic and his work ethic, but most of it is just down to bad luck and bad timing. Jovic wasn’t able to prove that he was good enough for the club, but he also didn’t get consistent minutes because of Benzema’s freakish abilities as a footballer. I don’t know why Jovic’s dad is talking about right or wrong when it goes beyond that.

I guess that since he is Luka’s father, at the end of the day, he will say stuff like that to defend his son. But, in my opinion, I don’t really know how Real Madrid are at fault. It’s just confusing, you know?
